CASTLES OF SAINT-LÉGER
Hugues Capet brought St. Léger back into the crown domain. Between 996 and 1031, his son Robert the Pious built a residence to hunt in the forest, the first castle of the commune. It was located on the esplanade overlooking the church. It was 50 metres wide and served as a base for the second castle built by Henri II. Philippe I, Louis VI le Gros, Louis VII and Philippe Auguste résidèrent in Saint-Léger. Louis VI would be dead. Henri II (king from 1547 to 1559) built the second castle, partly by the famous architect Philibert Delorme, whose plans were reproduced by Hoop. He was not sufficiently frequented by the court, but he began to turn it into a stud stud from 1608. Horse breeding in Saint-Léger was confirmed since the th century. In 1667, Louis XIV ordered the demolition of the castle, and the stud-stud, which had at least 600 beasts, was transferred to the bottom of the village, in a third castle that was built under the reign of Charle IX for the Count of the Duke of Anjou, the future Henri III. The stud-stud left the village in 1715 for the Pines in Normandy, and the castle of the Duke of Anjou, where Louis XV had stayed several times, was destroyed in 1875. One can still see today, on the road of Condé, a blasonnée door of fleurs de fleurs, a ring of wall abandoned from bricks and stones in checkerboard, and the moat became "the canal".
