VAUGIAN CASTLE
Italian-style château built on a former Vaugien estate, with chapel and gardens designed by Le Nôtre
At the end of the 15th c., the lord of Chevreuse sold the land and château that made up the Vaugien estate to Jean Chaudron. In the 19th century, Count de Thellusson de Sorcy, from a family of Parisian bankers, deemed the château far too cramped to accommodate his many friends. He had it razed to the ground and, in 1829, erected a completely new Italian-style residence. He spared the gardens designed by Le Nôtre and the small 18th-century chapel, as well as the superb 40-hectare park. Today, escape and exploratory games can be booked in advance.
