MANSION OF SAINTE-MESME - MUSEUM OF MILITARY COSTUME
The Military Costume Museum is located in the outbuildings of the splendid manor house of Sainte-Mesme, privately owned by the General and Countess Louis de Lambilly. The manor itself deserves a detour: with its octagonal tower, its vis staircase, its colombages, its French ceilings and its exterior decoration, it is one of the few models of civil architecture of the th century in Île-de-France. The museum's visit, the interior of which has been completely restored, allows to discover 90 nature-sized models with French, British, American and German military attire, thus presenting more than two centuries of history, from 1870 to the present. The collection was based on family memories and donations from visitors. We also discover ceramic objects, ex-voto of Gallo-Roman times (dedicated to the goddess of Silgina waters) and other prehistoric silex updated during sanitation, and then excavations on the site.
