THE NYMPHEA
Reconstruction of a nymphaeum: Gallo-Roman sanctuary dedicated to the nymphs, gods of the springs, discovered in 1984.
An ancient Gallo-Roman sanctuary dedicated to the deities of springs, this nymphaeum and its sacred spring date back to the 1st century. The site was probably part of a vast complex where worshippers worshipped water, since a marble fountain depicting a nymph was found during excavations carried out on the site in 1984. Today, as the original sanctuary lies beneath the Cours de Flexanville, part of it has been reconstructed next door. The original nymph is housed in the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
