TRIBUNAL DE GRANDE INSTANCE – PALAIS DE JUSTICE
The court of large instance (also referred to as TGI) considers civil disputes between private persons (physical or moral) that are not attributed by law to another civil jurisdiction, as well as civil disputes involving applications over € 10 000. The Court of Large Instance also considers many cases, irrespective of the amount of the application:
Status of persons: marital status, filiation, nationality…
Family: matrimonial regimes, divorces, parental authority, succession, etc.
The court of large instance consists of magistrates, a president, vice-presidents, judges (judges, judges for family affairs, judges of children, pretrial judge, enforcement judge) as well as clerks and various staff. The Public Prosecutor intervenes with the court in civil proceedings to apply for the application of the law and to ensure respect for the general forces of society; he is represented by the Prosecutor of the Republic and his substitutes, which form the PARQUET Prosecutor's Office. French justice is delivered in a public hearing, so you can attend a trial if it is not family or in camera. All you have to do is get to the proper dress in the court and get to know you at the reception to know the schedules of the hearings, but you can easily call the reception.
