NOTRE DAME CHURCH
The building was constructed between 1684 and 1686 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart
It was only twenty years after Louis XIV decided to make Versailles his royal residence that he had a church built on a former place of worship (Saint-Julien). It was built between 1684 and 1686 by Hardouin-Mansart. The building is in the classical style, with superimposed Doric and Ionic orders and a low pediment. Although the Revolution stripped the church of its possessions, a few masterpieces remained: pulpit, organ case, paintings... In the 19th century, the Sacré-Coeur chapel was added and the building was refurnished: confessionals, stained-glass windows, paintings..
