PLACE OF REMEMBRANCE IN YVELINES
Permanent exhibition of photos, illustrations, newspapers... Group visits by appointment
We all have a duty to remember, to pass on the history of our families and our country to future generations. The last century was marked by two great wars: 1914-1918 and 1939-1945, which are still fresh in people's minds, or have been brought to life by relatives who have told us about them. Cities also have a duty to pass on their patriotic heritage, and while there are few places in the Yvelines that evoke the wars of the century through documentation and images, the city of Versailles offers us this opportunity! The Lieu de mémoires en Yvelines association, set up by both civilian and military figures, offers visitors a permanent exhibition of photos, illustrations, newspapers and more. A wealth of documentation, accompanied by objects that shed light on the context and plunge us back into these troubled times. One area is dedicated to the 1914-1918 war. An area recreates the events of the 1939-1945 war, in chronological order: the German occupation, General de Gaulle's appeal, the Overseas Territories, camp escapees, the Foreign Legion... An instructive place that honors our veterans and reminds us of these two wars, still present in many families. Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Fait will be your first point of contact and will arrange an appointment. This place of remembrance will be open to you following an appointment: whether you are an association, school or family group, you can also visit the site if you are an individual group by making a special request!
