THE GRANTS
Two pavilions flanking the Avenue de Paris, built in 1824 and linked by iron gates, mark the entrance to Versailles.
These two pavilions framing the Avenue de Paris symbolically mark the entrance to Versailles, which has been located there since 1787. The two current Octroi pavilions were built in 1824 and linked by iron gates that closed the avenue. Until 1943, the Octroi taxed goods entering the royal city according to weight and quantity. After being considered for demolition, due to the visual obstacle they represented on this dangerous crossroads, the pavilions were finally made available to associations... and the crossroads redeveloped.
