The Jeu de Paume, the ancestor of our tennis and squash, enjoyed a golden age in the 15th and 16th centuries. At the beginning of the 17th century, there were almost 250 gaming halls in Paris. The Salle de Versailles was built for the Court in 1686. A historic site, it was the scene of the famous Jeu de Paume Oath of June 20, 1789 (for which it is mainly known). On that day, the deputies of the Tiers-Etat proclaimed themselves the National Assembly, and vowed "never to separate until the Constitution is established." The Revolution was underway...
