POLICE STATION
A hotel in Versailles, classified as a historic monument, with sculpted decor and the gendarmes' motto.
One would pass by without seeing it, even though its portal - the main interest of the building today - is one of the most beautiful in the city. Who were the gendarmes who gave their name to the place? Those of the guard of Louis XV, for whom he bought the outbuildings of the hotel of the princess of Conti and had a hotel built. Listed as a historical monument, the monumental door is decorated with sculptures (military trophies, palms, flowers and shells) and bears the motto of the gendarmes: Quo jubet iratus Jupiter, ("Where furious Jupiter orders").
