AUTOROUTES DU SUD DE LA FRANCE
Bordering the Deux Mers highway (A61) on Aire de Pech Loubat towards Toulouse, cylindrical shapes of 13 m high representing three Cathar knights. This work symbolises the local and tragic history that the Cathar inhabitants experienced, such as their escape to the castles of the region to flee from the Inquisition and butchers. We will not hide it, it did not work! The sculptures were made in 1980 by Jacques Tissinier, an Aude painter and architect at the Ministry of Environment. These cement giants weigh 150 tons and contain a staircase of 28 steps giving access to a platform, where an optical cannon stands, allowing to have the most beautiful panoramic view of Narbonne and its surroundings, particularly the sea and the ponds. Today, the access is unfortunately enclosed by grids because of vandalism. Arranged tables and the possibility of going for a picnic.
