A palace-museum in Narbonne, comprising three towers and an archbishop's palace in Romanesque, Gothic and neo-Gothic styles.

A familiar site for Narbonne residents, since the town hall has been located here since 1842. On either side of the Passage de l'Ancre are the Palais Vieux (12th and 13th centuries) and the Palais Neuf (14th century, modified in the 17th and 18th centuries). The archbishop's palace displays the historical periods it has passed through: Romanesque, Gothic, Classical and Neo-Gothic styles make up a unique architectural ensemble. From the square, the palace facade features three towers: the Madeleine tower, the oldest, the Saint-Martial tower, and the Gilles-Aycelin keep. The Palais-Musée des Archevêques boasts masterpieces on the second floor, in the former apartments of the archbishops: the painted wooden ceiling of the Palais Vieux (currently under renovation) is among the oldest (13th century) and most prestigious in the Mediterranean arc. The art collections in the Palais Neuf include such fine pieces as Brueghel's Danse de Noces, a Self-portrait by Rigaud, pharmacy jars from the Hôtel-Dieu and an Orientalist collection of 130 works. The palace backs onto Narbonne's first city wall, beyond which stretches the Archbishop's garden. At the end of the Passage de l'Ancre, a door leads to the 14th-century cloister, where you can admire the picturesque sculpted gargoyles and enjoy the quiet shade. Guided tours organized by the public service of the City of Art and History and the Palace Museum.

The collection didn’t interest me enough to pay to visit. However the building itself is great. You can also view the replica of Rome’s gift to Narbonne on the 2100 anniversary of its founding (it is also repeated on an arch at Pl De la Forum)
