The oldest and one of the greatest castles of Cathar country, with medieval reconstructions and guided tours of the treasure trove

Château de Saissac is the oldest and one of the largest castles in Cathar country. In fact, excavations have shown that it dates back to the year 900. Visible from the road, the castle is visited and experienced on a daily basis: in local festivals, medieval re-enactments or guided tours around the "treasure". Indeed, 2,000 royal denarii found in 1979 and stamped with the seal of Saint Louis add to the museographical and historical interest of the site, making it a veritable treasure trove, both literally and figuratively.
