POTERIE AIGUES-VIVES
Richard Esteban is France's last remaining manufacturer of small series of glazed earthenware dishes and garden pots, inspired by ancient models. This potter, who lives between Montpellier and Nîmes, nurtures the atmosphere and decor of bygone days in his workshop in Aigues-Vives: the fire in the fireplace, the scent of earth, ancestral gestures... Richard Esteban, who dreamed of driving a racing car when he was younger, plunged his hands into the earth for the first time at the age of 16 during a seasonal job. It was a revelation for the young man who wanted to live in the countryside, close to nature. Today, the craftsman turns, slips, glues, decorates and glazes plates, dishes, salad bowls, jugs, small containers, vases... Poterie d'Aigues-Vives, which has held the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label since 2008, has another site in Lozère, at Meyrueis.
