CAESAR'S CAMP
Self-guided tour of one of the major archaeological sites of southern Roman Gaul, with a superb panoramic view of the surrounding area
One of the major archaeological sites of southern Roman Gaul. Dominating the Rhone corridor, it consists of an oppidum situated on a rocky peak 264 meters above sea level, whose ascent offers superb panoramic views of the surrounding area. Its strategic position has enabled it to flourish over many centuries, and the site has seen many eras, from protohistory to the Middle Ages, including of course a strong Roman occupation. The 18-hectare site is freely accessible. A detailed information sheet can be found on the town's website.
