CALENDRETA
In Occitan lands, Nîmes had to have a school anxious to transmit the language and culture of OC. From kindergarten to primary, bilingual teaching in French and Occitan is free. The programmes do not differ from classical establishments, the materials are the same except that here we learn to read, write and count… in the vernacular language of the region, Occitan and French. The combination of languages serves as a vector for this learning which, it seems, is more than beneficial to the development of the spirit. A little history… it was in 1988 that the association Calandreta Nimesenca was created. Named after Calandreta Aimat Serre, in tribute to one of his founders who died in July 1993, she is very successful in southern cities.
