Museum of Fine Arts presenting an impressive ancient mosaic on the marriage of Admète and various works in Nîmes.

Welcomed in a central atrium, the visitor is amazed to discover an enormous antique mosaic on Admet's wedding, found in Nîmes in 1883. The Museum of Fine Arts then offers a visit on two levels of galleries with collections enriched by donations from private collectors. Italian school from the 14th to the 18th century, French school from the 17th to the 19th century, Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, sculptures and temporary exhibitions enliven the premises.

Un accueil charmant et très professionnel des deux dames de la billetterie et une visite très agréable dans ce musée magnifiquement rénové dans la tradition des beaux hôtels particuliers. Vaut vraiment le déplacement, bien situé proche des arènes, parking gratuit le samedi après midi et dimanche un tarif d'entrée très abordable.

A well curated collection of Italian, French, Dutch and German painters. The French collection has some wonderful portraits that let you see into the soul of the subject Also, there is a lovely painting of Alexander the Great meeting the very eccentric Greek philosopher Diogenes while he lived in a barrel with his clock, his stick and his bread bag. Additionally, there is a particularly engimatic painting of Ulysseus' "encounter" with a sword waving Circe on the island of Aiaia. And if, like me, you ever wondered exactly how the Immaculate Conception occurred, there is a painting with a depiction.
