URSULINE CONVENT
Convent of the Ursulines in Sommières with permanent exhibitions on the artistic career of Jacqueline Salmon and Jacques Bollo
Built at the foot of the château, this former convent boasts a remarkable monumental façade. A military hospital during the 1914-1918 war, the building was bought by the commune in 1977. Now a center for art and culture, the historic complex was renamed Espace Lawrence Durrell in 1990, as a tribute to the British writer who lived in Sommières. In the convent rooms, a permanent exhibition of some fifteen paintings recalls the artistic career of Jacqueline Salmon. Temporary exhibitions are also held every summer.
