TIBER BRIDGE
Go there and contact
This stone bridge is a monumental, solid and majestic structure, linking Toulouse, Nîmes and Marseille.
A Roman bridge dating from the 1st century, this monumental 189-metre structure is the second longest ancient viaduct built in Europe. The decision to build the bridge was taken in Rome, reflecting Sommières' strategic importance as a link between Toulouse and Nîmes, and by extension, Marseille. In fact, it was the Vidourle that historically marked the boundary between Languedoc and Provencal influences. The bridge has often been restored, but as you go down to the Place du Marché, take Rue de la Grave and look up: the original large Roman stones are still there.
