A fortress located in Sommières, and registered as a historical monument, with a tower that reaches 25 m high...
This fortress dates back to the 11th century, and the best preserved parts date from the 12th and 13th centuries. This is the case of the Bermond tower, a Romanesque tower which reaches a height of 25 m. After two centuries of deterioration, the tower was listed as a Historic Monument in 1926, but this did not protect all of the remains and it took another 50 years for the city to become aware of the richness of its heritage and its appeal to tourists. After several years of work, the complex was listed as a Historic Monument in 2010.
