THE CLIMATOGRAPHER
The meteorological summit of Aigoual, a place offering breathtaking panoramas.
Formerly known as the Mont Aigual Observatory, since July 2023 an interpretation center called Le Climatographe awaits you on this site erected at the end of the 19th century at an altitude of 1,567 metres. The last inhabited weather station in France, it covers 13 départements and offers, on a clear day, a panoramic view of France's finest peaks from the Alps to the Pyrenees. The mission of this first French climate change interpretation center, run by the Communauté de communes Causses Aigoual Cévennes - Terres Solidaires with the support of Météo-France, is to raise visitors' awareness of the new climate challenges. Within its stone walls, which were transformed into an exhibition center in 1985, visitors will discover an 850m2 climatic test center, and will be able to wander through a 700m2 exhibition area comprising 10 permanent and evolving spaces, articulated between questions about the climate, avenues for reflection and possible solutions for tomorrow. At the end of the tour, a mediator (meteorologist or scientist) will be on hand to answer your questions about weather and climate observation. Young and old alike can also take part in the Ecological Renaissance Fresco, an interactive work in which everyone is invited to participate. It's a great way to gain height in every sense of the word, in a mythical and magnificent location perched in the heart of the Cévennes National Park.
