Fort that stands proudly on Mount Andaon as on a pedestal in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon

Fort Saint-André stands proudly on Mount Andaon like a pedestal. It was built by Philippe Le Bel from 1291 to assert the power of the Kingdom of France against the Empire and the Popes of Avignon and to protect the town and its abbey. It was occupied until the French Revolution. It can be reached by climbing up the fort and entering through a gate flanked by impressive twin towers. Crenellations, loopholes, watchtowers and machicolations give its two towers the appearance of an impregnable citadel. It is also used as a place for exhibitions.

Fort impressionnant de l'extérieur, je n'ai pas pu visiter l'intérieur, mais je conseille de se promener autour du fort afin de profiter des jolis points de vue !

Je n'avais pas visité le fort depuis longtemps et ai été impressionné par les travaux de restauration. De nombreux points de vue sur Avignon mais aussi sur le mont Ventoux.

Très joli fort avec une vu splendide sur le château d'Avignon et sur toute la plaine au alentour. Plusieurs parkings sont à la disposition plus ou moins loin de l'entrée du fort. De celui qui se trouve à l'extérieur de la ville devant l'office du tourisme on emprunte de belles petites ruelles pour grimper jusqu'au fort. Le tarif est à 6 euro, en ce moment il y a des travaux de rénovation sur les premières maisons

Magnifique Fort avec des impressionnantes tours à l'entrée. A côté nous avons l'impression de nous sentir tout petit.
Le 1er dimanche du mois, il est possible d'effectuer gratuitement une visite guidée du château afin d'avoir un maximum d'informations et anecdotes sur ce lieu chargé d'histoire.
La Promenade le long des remparts est très agréable et la vue d'en haut surplombe Avignon et le Palais des Papes. C'est tout juste magnifique !
