Lover of the Canal du Midi and fascinating storyteller, Robert Mornet built himself this replica of a boat that sailed on the canal between 1673 and 1858, until the opening of the Toulouse/Sète railway line. The post boats did not carry mail but passengers. Up to 100,000 people per year were transported between Toulouse and the sea, at a time when roads were dangerous and stagecoaches were uncomfortable. These horse-drawn boats could carry 50 passengers. The Mornet boat is often moored in Capestang.
