Le Villard, owned by the Episcopate, overlooks the Lot valley.
Le Villard overlooks the Lot valley. In the Middle Ages, Le Villard, like Château de Chanac, belonged to the episcopate. The bishops developed it to protect themselves from royal troops. Damaged by the Wars of Religion, the Villard site was abandoned in favor of Chanac, and was totally abandoned in the 18th century. Restored in the 1980s, the church, ramparts, fortified gate and houses make up a typical medieval episcopal fortress. This part of the site is open to visitors all year round.
