The town's oldest monuments, the Pénitents tower and the medieval bridge in Mende.
The city's oldest monuments, the tour des Pénitents and the medieval bridge, are the remains of Mende's ancient fortifications. The former is a semicircular tower with three superimposed rooms, dating from the 12th century, and can only be visited in the company of the tourist office. The Notre-Dame bridge, a magnificent 12th-century structure with three arches, has been perfectly preserved and still spans the River Lot below the old town.
