THE JALABERT RISE
The Jalabert climb, designated as a "Route du Tour", requires good calves and plenty of practice.
july 14, 1995: cyclist Laurent Jalabert wins the 82nd stage of the Tour de France in Mende. In memory, the Croix-Neuve hill has been renamed Montée Jalabert. It's an atypical passage for cyclists tempted to repeat the feat. You sign up at the Coeur de Lozère tourist office to collect a card, then punch it in at the time and date machine at the bottom of the climb, warm up your calves on the 10% gradient, and punch it in at the finish. Back at the office, you receive a diploma certifying your time.
