This site, unique in the Pyrenees and in France, has become the epitome of the Roussillon region

Marvellous and Divine Nature! It took nearly 5 million years to sculpt the soft rock of this remarkable site. Just 2 km north of Ille-sur-Têt on the road to the Fenouillèdes granite plateau towards Montalba, in the middle of the garrigue, the rocks shaped by time and erosion produce astonishing fairy chimneys, towers of soft rock, dominated by harder terraces. In physical and geomorphological terms, the Orgues site illustrates the mechanisms of the intense erosion that has taken place since the Quaternary on the paleo-alluvial outlets of the Têt. In addition to its geological specificity, the site exudes a certain magic, a sense of being immersed in a fantasy setting. This site, unique in the Pyrenees and in France, with its canyon-like shape carved by wind and water, the Canigó in the background, and its palette of shades of yellow, red and ochre in the harsh light, has become a veritable epitome of the Roussillon region. The site is perfectly maintained, with a series of paths and explanatory panels leading you from one curiosity to the next. Allow at least an hour for the visit, and take the time to take photos and simply marvel at this natural work of art. Don't forget to bring sneakers or walking shoes, as we're in the middle of nature and the paths are rocky. And don't forget to stop off at the snack-boutique on your way back to learn more about the site and the region.
