L'ILE AUX LOISIRS
Discover this protected area by canoe, paddle, aqua stepper or boat without a licence, for trips with the Canigou as a backdrop
L'Ile aux Loisirs is a space dedicated to exploring and discovering the Etang de Salses-Leucate. Dominique Thibaut, founder of the Lac Marin association, is reviving the memory of Henry de Monfreid, another tireless traveller and modern-day adventurer. The adventure began in 1998 on a small beach on the Etang de Leucate. Dominique fell in love with the place and built a barraca, the traditional fisherman's house made of sanils (reeds). Little by little, school groups, the curious and CEs come to take part in the organized visits and workshops: discovering the ecosystem, fishing on foot, building... Dominique is passionate about his work; he lives his words and has the gift of thrilling you. 25 years later, on Leucate's most eco-friendly spot and certainly one of the best on the lake, he has succeeded in combining environmental awareness and water sports activities. Numerous educational projects are carried out with schools, including the famous pedal-boat treasure hunt in the lagoon. And for the fun and sport aspect, there's nothing like discovering this protected area by canoe, paddle, pedalo, aqua stepper or boat without a license. Unforgettable walks with the Canigou as a backdrop! Last but not least, the icing on the cake is the waterside guinguette, set up on stilts: an oasis of serenity, a little organic and artistic, with its alcoves, intimate spaces and delicious cocktails and tapas that you can enjoy while watching the sunset. Few places have moved us so!
