THE CHAPEL OF SAINT-MARTIN-DE-FENOLLAR
Pre-Romanesque chapel from the 9th century built by Benedictine monks from Arles-sur-Tech in Maureillas-las-Illas.
On the road to Perthus, 5 min from the village, is this pretty pre-Romanesque chapel of the 9th century, which really deserves a detour. Built by Benedictine monks from Arles-sur-Tech, its architectural style is typically Carolingian of Mozarabic inspiration. It owes its notoriety to the remarkable anonymous mural frescoes that can be admired in the apse, some of which have said that "artists with golden hands have here reproduced the most beautiful images from the Bible. »
