FINE ARTS MUSEUM - HYACINTHE RIGAUD
Museum in Perpignan offering temporary exhibitions of major works. Among the most popular cultural venues.
It's hard to get enough of the Musée Rigaud, because each new exhibition is a real treat... The Catalan painter Hyacinthe Rigaud, who was none other than King Louis XIV's court painter, has a "royal" showcase here to showcase his works. The City of Perpignan has therefore brought together the Hôtel de Mailly and the Hôtel de Lazerme to offer visitors a 3-level, 4,300 m² space dedicated to art from the 13th to the 21st century. Major artists are on show: Guerra, Maillol, Terrus, Lurcat, Daura, Ingres, Picasso... and Dufy, who lived in Perpignan for the last ten years of his life. Level 2, covering 380 m², is reserved for temporary exhibitions, featuring major works each year (Picasso and Perpignan, Rodin and Maillol...). In addition to the classic collections, this event attracts thousands of visitors. The Musée Rigaud is one of the busiest and most important cultural venues in Occitanie. But this would not have been possible without the Barbotin-Larrieu architectural firm, who designed this showcase combining modernity and antiquity, with its magnificent hanging garden of Mediterranean essences, designed as a zen break during a visit to the "New Rigaud Museum". And let's not forget the special programs and tours for groups and children. The Musée Rigaud has emphasized the educational nature of its collections, and more and more young people are visiting the museum. Well done!
