An archaeological site with a wealth of pottery, everyday objects, jewelry, hut foundations and tombs.
In ancient times, Ruscino was a renowned place that later gave us the name of Roussillon. Archaeological excavations have brought to light numerous pieces of pottery, everyday objects, jewellery as well as the foundations of huts and tombs, proving its prosperity until the Middle Ages. But all of this seems quite reductive to the Little Futé who went to "dig" a little deeper into the subject and gleaned some additional information from CNRS researchers. Indeed, it was confirmed that 6 centuries BC, during the Iron Age, the vine was present (in its wild state, vitis vinifera) and the first "nectars" were probably produced. Etruscan pottery found on the site tends to prove that wine was produced in Ruscino long before the Roman conquest. A commercial letter in lead, found on the spot, would make mention of a wine press on this site. We will know more when the results of the geophysical survey are published in order to re-launch future excavations around the site of Ruscino. Please note that, if the health situation allows, archaeological workshops for children are organised during the school holidays in zone C.
