A site located in Perpignan, where Firmin Bauby designs and produces all his ceramics as well as monumental works.
Ceramics have made the reputation of the Sant Vicens farmhouse. Firmin Bauby, decorator and patron of the arts, set up a workshop there in 1942 to welcome artists working in the field of ceramics. Picasso and Dali stayed there, as did Jean Picard Ledoux and René Perrot. Nevertheless, Sant Vicens is forever linked to the name of Jean Lurçat; since 1950, he will reside in the farmhouse every spring and autumn for fifteen years. It is in this place that he will draw and realize all his ceramics: tiles, dishes, pitchers, tureens, vases... but also monumental works like the fresco which illuminates the house of the radio in Strasbourg. The visit is really worth it, as much for the place set in a remarkable park as for the artistic activity that has never stopped. Today it is Claire Bauby, his granddaughter, who welcomes you to this farmhouse that she has managed to enhance with her artists' workshop that works in front of you. You can visit the century-old cellar where artists from the Roussillon region exhibit their ceramics, unique pieces that rub shoulders with the tapestries of Lurçat. An exhibition space is dedicated to historical artists, grouped under the name of "Colla de Sant Vicens". At Christmas, take the whole family to see the crib and the colorful Sant Vicens Santons, with a new theme every year and incredibly realistic scenes.
