Museum of Prehistory presenting the history of mankind in Europe from the first men to the gates of history.

The Tautavel Prehistory Museum is a complex built around... Tautavel Man. It presents the entire history of mankind in Europe, from the first Europeans to the dawn of history. Tautavel is the site where France's oldest human remains have been found, dating back 560,000 years. Activities for the whole family are a definite plus when visiting the museum. This archaeological site is one of the richest in the world, and the museum's collection reflects this richness, highlighted by a number of spectacular reconstructions. During school vacations in the academic zone, afternoon workshops and fun cultural activities bring prehistory to life, creating an experience that immerses everyone in our prehistoric ancestors. Throughout the year, the museum offers a cultural program (events, meetings, exhibitions, etc.) that places the visitor's experience at the heart of the action. Detailed program on the museum website. Panels and information sheets in several languages (English, German, Dutch, Spanish and Catalan) make the museum accessible to visitors from all over the world. The cave is currently closed for renovation. Access via a very steep path is impossible for people with reduced mobility and children under 7.
