The history of the world's largest oak vat began in 1860. Simon and Pallade Violet, two young brothers, take to the road to sell haberdashery, fabrics and wine, before taking up residence in Thuir in a shop that houses a few small barrels... Simon then decided to play the alchemist by associating great Roussillon wines with plants and bark. This aperitif, first named, Tonic and hygienic wine with cinchona, appeals to local pharmacists, as well as grocers and coffee shops. The Byrrh brand was officially created in 1873. And the company, whose cellars are constantly expanding, is thriving at high speed. And it was in 1951 that she installed this famous largest oak vat in the world, with a capacity of 1,000,200 litres! The French wine-based aperitif is now the property of the Pernod-Ricard group
