NATIONAL STUD FARM OF POMPADOUR
A stud farm to visit to find out all about production and breeding, with numerous bloodstock and draught stallions at Pompadour.
The fortified castle of Pompadour has certainly beautiful towers with their machicolations and covered way, but it also contains a regional, even national jewel. The National Stud of Pompadour, a must for horse riding enthusiasts, offers no less than 160 days of events per year, including four French and two international championships organised in 2020 in this prestigious setting: high-level equestrian competitions, international dressage competitions, Grande Semaine de Pompadour, etc., and a centre of entertainment, including summer equestrian cabarets in the mythical Manège de l'Orangerie. Finally, this stud farm is an exceptional heritage spread over 200 hectares: equestrian stadium and its modern and top-of-the-range infrastructures (5 quarries), racecourse, classified 1st category for cross-country skiing, etc. This site is part of the network of the French Horse and Riding Institute, which includes the National Studs and the Cadre Noir de Saumur. There are three new features in 2020: the national fire brigade cross-country race, the French championship for Iberian horses and equimeeting.
