THE GLANDIER'S CHARTREUSE

Occupied today by a medical centre, Chartreuse was rebuilt at the end of the th century following the usual order of law and order. Chartreuse was founded in 1219 by Archambaud VI, Viscount de Comborn, in the middle of a oak forest near the Loyre. The monks, after having had to leave the Revolution, once again occupied it from 1869 to 1903, when they will have to leave in exile. Meanwhile, around 1834, in the ruins left by the Revolution, Charles Pouch-Lafarge set up a forge on the Loyre. In August 1839, Charles Lafarge, short of capital, married a Parisian aristocrat in the name of Marie Capelle. His death in January 1840 was attributed to arsenic. His wife, accused of having poisoned him, was sentenced to life after a resounding trial which left doubt about his guilt.
