EDF SPACE OF THE BORT DAM
Exhibition room with photos and videos of the construction process, explanatory panels and interactive terminals
1,400 ha and 21 km long for this artificial lake with 477 millionm3 of water. It is the2nd largest water reservoir in France. Built from 1942 onwards, the dam is one of the few structures built under the German occupation. Its impoundment in 1951 engulfed three villages. Its crest, 390 m long, used as a road axis between the Corrèze and Cantal can be walked on. Car parks are provided for this purpose. A breathtaking experience: here you are 120 m high with the huge mass of water on one side and a view of the imposing concrete building that bars the valley on the other. The electric factory, EDF space, is open to visits. The engine room is visible through a bay window. The exhibition room shows photos and videos retracing the construction, explanatory panels and interactive terminals. Artists present works related to the theme of water
