THE GORGES OF HEAVEN

The gorges de la Cère are wild and impressive, with a wealth of flora and fauna.
Rising in the Cantal region, the river Cère flows into the Xaintrie in wild and impressive gorges. The GR 652 runs along them for 30 km, offering magnificent overhanging views from the "Prés de la Font" and the "Rocher du Peintre" (Painter's Rock). The spectacle is grandiose: a vast panorama, on the right the Causse de Martel, opposite the plateau of the Ségala Lotois, on the left, the beginnings of the mounts of Cantal. This wild site is distinguished by the richness of its fauna and flora. In the deep ravine, the Aurillac-Bordeaux railway line, built at the end of the 19th century, traces its unusual path through the woods occupying the steep slopes. As for the banks of the river Cère, they are a delight for fishermen.
