THE EXPERIMENTAL TRUFFLE FIELD
In the municipality of Chartrier-Ferrière, a small treasure of 4 ha is hidden: the experimental station of the tuber melanosporum, known as the black truffles of Périgord. Established since 1978 in the place-dit-des-Chèvres, the mission is to produce truffles by testing green oak plantations, pubescent and hazel oaks, and fertilizers. Since 2003, the station has opened a part of this operation to the public and organizes an international truffle festival every two years. It is also an opportunity for consumers to spend a gastronomic day and meet the black diamond professionals. On the spot, the dog, Theos, finds truffles in a few minutes!
