SAINT-PIERRE CHURCH
Built of red sandstone in the and centuries, this church is a fine example of Romanesque art
Built of red sandstone in the 11th and 12th centuries, the church was enlarged in the late Middle Ages with side chapels and fortified during the Wars of Religion. A fine example of Romanesque art, the 12th-century bell tower with gables changes from a square to an octagonal floor plan. The adjacent watchtower bears witness to the preoccupation with defending the site during the Hundred Years' War. Note the Causse white limestone portal with its finely sculpted tympanum (12th century), a Baroque painted wood altarpiece, a wooden Virgin of Pity (16th century) and a reclining Christ.
