THE CHURCH OF SAINT-HILAIRE-LA-COMBE
One of the oldest early Romanesque churches in Corrèze, its sobriety and compact form make a lasting impression.
Located at La Combe and built in the 11th century on Merovingian foundations, this church is one of the oldest in Corrèze. Missing parts and blocked openings show that it has survived the ages by retrenchment. In a primitive Romanesque style, its sobriety and compact form make a lasting impression. Large stone slabs on the floor of the main nave lead to the choir, which is polygonal in shape and very simply decorated. The church hosts summer exhibitions of paintings and sculptures organized by the Friends of Curemonte.
