The largest peat bog in the Limousin, an immense sponge two meters thick formed by 8,000 years of decomposition.
The peat bog of Longeyroux is one of the treasures of the commune of Meymac and the region. This magical site is indeed the largest peat bog in Limousin, a huge sponge of 250 ha and two meters thick formed by 8,000 years of plant and organic decomposition in cold, acidic water. Located at an altitude of 900 m, it constitutes an exceptional natural environment. A paradise for heather and carnivorous plants, a refuge for dragonflies, meadow pipits for nesting, viviparous lizards and otters. Two trails allow you to explore the site: the "sentier des Linaigrettes" (1 km) marked out with explanatory panels and laid out with logs and the "sentier des Bruyères" (9 km) which takes you to the heart of the peat bog. In this striking landscape, visitors will be charmed by the legend of the Hundred Stones.
