THE RAZEL MILLS
Millevaches, a etymologically country of the «thousand sources», has seen the construction of numerous mills. The Razel site has the particularity of having three close to each other, forming a charming small set nestled in bois. One collective use was built by the inhabitants of Razel and Chaumeil and the other two private individuals belonged to affluent families. Prior to the Revolution, they allowed people far from the main routes of communication, to carve buckwheat to obtain flour and to make bread and cakes. Built in rustic fashion with local materials, the mills were equipped with granite wheels, carved by a local craftsman. Now restored, they deliver the secrets of their fine mechanics: a spoon mechanism, the most common in the region. The tourist office, in partnership with the Razel Mills association, offers individual or group guided tours.
