THE OLD TOWN
A heritage tour organized to discover the old town of Argentat, and the gabare with a superb view on the Dordogne
Discover the old town of Argentat through the narrow streets, some paved with small pebbles, following the slope that leads to the Dordogne, for example, through the rue de la Porte Basse. A one-hour heritage tour is offered by the tourist office (free visit with free brochure or audioguide) during which you will discover 23 historic sites, including the Récollets and Clarisses convent (17th century), the Turenne hotel, the Bessol house and the stone pontoon of the old ferry. And of course the magnificent quays, including that of Lestourgie lined with half-timbered houses. You can see a gabare (or courpet) floating or being repaired. From the Pont de la République you have a superb view of the Dordogne.
