An medieval town with a Lord of the Rings atmosphere and a wealth of architectural details.

A Lord of the R ings atmosphere for the dungeons of this 11th century medieval city, which rise out of the greenery and offer a breathtaking panorama. This feudal city was used as military security for the inhabitants of 8 parishes. In medieval times, 3 castles occupied the site, a stronghold that housed up to 2,000 soldiers and peasants. Stairs carved into the rock were the only access point to the castles. The citadel, once very lively, housed in the three high square towers the seigneurial residences of knights, men-at-arms and servants. Over the centuries, the city was neglected. And under the reign of Louis XIII, it gradually fell into oblivion. With its abandoned towers, collapsed buildings and chimneys hanging in the void, the citadel with its grandiose character is still today full of emotion. Thanks to restoration work, a multitude of architectural details such as the pointed ceilings, monumental chimneys and spiral staircases can be found there.

Set on a rocky spur, the towers offer a splendid view of the surrounding forest. The remains of the citadel let us imagine life in these places. One can climb the top of one of the towers. The access is a bit difficult because the steps are a little narrow, but it really is worth it. Predicting good footwear
