Listed as a historic monument, Aire-sur-l'Adour's Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral features a choir with an imposing slate dome.
Aire-sur-l'Adour was the seat of the bishopric for 15 centuries, hence the presence of a cathedral in the town. The oldest parts of the building date from the 12th century. From the 14th to the 18th century, victim of the Wars of Religion, it was profoundly remodelled. The choir is surmounted by an imposing slate dome. The interior is decorated with splendid 19th century frescoes. Listed as a Historic Monument, it is a stopover on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
