LA MAISON DE LOYAC
Private house described by Prosper Mérimée in 1838, combining the flamboyant Gothic style with Renaissance decorations
Formerly the abbot's residence, La Maison de Loyac dates from the late 16th century and combines the flamboyant Gothic style with Renaissance decorations. The façade, with its two turrets, is adorned with fantastical animals, vine leaves and saucy figures. For Prosper Mérimée, writer and Inspecteur des Monuments Historiques, this house is "the most beautiful in eastern Aquitaine". Since the restoration of the Place Gambetta in 2006, thanks to the craftsmen's goldsmith's work, the Maison de Loyac shines as brightly as on its first day.
