THE ENCLOSURE AND THE ALVERGE

The fortified medieval town included the "enclos" (the historic center) and the suburbs, including the Alverge suburb, which was densely populated in the ^14th century. Here you'll find beautiful half-timbered houses, the famous Alverge tower (^15th century) and, above all, the Juyés de Seilhac house, a noble residence built under François ^I and preserved intact from cellar to attic. Explore this maze of staircases and steep alleyways, where many buildings have retained their medieval appearance. From the puy Saint-Clair, where you'll find the ^17th-century church of Saint-Pierre, you'll have a magnificent view over the Corrèze.
