CHURCH OF SAINT SYLVAIN
Visit of the Saint-Sylvain church, with sculpted capitals, a baptismal font and a gilded wooden reliquary
Under the patronage of Saint Sylvain, a local martyr, the church comprises a Romanesque eastern part (choir, apsidiolus and crypt from the 10th century built on an ancient Gallo-Roman temple) and an 18th century nave. Capitals are sculpted on the outside of the apse and its nave is topped by a reconstructed octagonal bell tower. The restoration of the monument was carried out from 1777 to 1781 based on the plans of Joseph Brousseau (architect of the episcopal palaces of Limoges and Sées, in the Orne). In spite of its austerity - due to its limited financial resources - the components of Joseph Brousseau's style can be recognised, in particular the rigour and the constant concern for harmonious proportions. Inside the church, discover a baptismal vat sculpted with a garland of palmettes (12th century), a Christ of Mercy (16th century), a moving 15th century Pietà and a 17th century gilded wooden reliquary. The remarkable 17th century woodwork in the choir was made by Jean Pavillon, master sculptor in Guéret.

Son architecture extérieure est splendide et sa taille est très grande en rapport àla taille du village, celui-ci ne manque pas de charme non plus
