THE CHURCH OF SANTIAGO LE MAJEUR
Church decorated with remarkable murals of Byzantine tradition and with a pietà classified as a historical monument in Auzances.
Built at the beginning of the 12th century and rebuilt at various times, this church is adorned with astonishing murals of Byzantine tradition, created in 1965 by a painter of Russian origin and Orthodox religion, Nicolas Greschny. They represent Saint Martial, Saint Michael, the apostles, Saint Anthony and the main events in the life of Christ. There is also a good copy of The Descent from the Cross by Daniel de la Volterra, an Italian mannerist painter who was a pupil and friend of Michelangelo, a 16th century polychrome granite pietà, classified as a historical monument, and the capitals decorated with leaves, leaning animals and figures.
